How to make a Water Filter

A water filter is a device that purifies water. A water filter consists of a large plastic bottle, a piece of cotton wool, stones, sand and a piece of filter paper such as coffee filter or blotting paper.
To assemble the water filter the plastic bottle is cut in half. The top half is placed upside down in the bottom half like a funnel. The cotton wool is placed in the neck of the bottle. The cotton wool is covered with a layer of stones, followed by a layer of sand. Finally the filter paper is placed on top.
When dirty water is poured carefully over the filter paper it will drip down slowly into the bottle below. This water is noticeably clearer.
More sophisticated water filters are used in the Waterworks. They also use chemicals to kill harmful bacteria in the water.

Green Clean!

We cleaned up a lot of rubbish on the way up to the church.

Our bags were nearly full -proof of how much rubbish there

is on the street! When we entered the church grounds there were bottles, cans, bags, nappies, shoes and even a lawnmower.

We all had a lot of fun. Hopefully we will get the green flag. A special word of thanks to Mrs. Mangan who helped us on the day.

Breaking News from Fairytale Land!!!

Youth Charged With B+E


At approximately 12 o clock yesterday Gardaí were called to a house in Fairytale Road where a ‘breaking and entering’ occurred. The culprit was caught in the act but for legal reasons the youth cannot be named although we can say she has blonde hair, is 13 and lives at 214 Candy Lane. A furious Daddy Bear told reporters that the front door had been left open because they live in such a friendly neighbourhood. A statement from the Bears’ lawyer says the Bears will be seeking compensation for ‘an eaten bowl of good porridge, a broken mahogany chair and soiled bed sheets’. A distraught Baby Bear told reporters that he will never be able to leave the house again without fear of being robbed. A court case is taking place tomorrow. We could not obtain a comment from the culprit is in a deep state of distress. Find out more tomorrow in your No.1 newspaper The Fairytale Times.
