Tie-dying

On Friday the 8th of September our class took on the task of tie-dying our t-shirts. Here is a description of how we did it:

  • Firstly, we each brought in a plain white t-shirt.
  • Ms. Farrelly got different colour dyes from our local chemist. The colours included: Bahama Blue, Flamingo Pink, Sunflower Yellow, Dark Green and Denim Blue.

  • We put pebbles from the school playground into the t-shirt and secured them with elastic bands. This would make the design.

  • We placed six litres of warm water into a basin, and added six tablespoons of salt.

  • Ms. Farrelly emptied the dye into the basin, and each of us put our t-shirts into it.
  • We took turns stirring the t-shirts with a wooden ruler. After some time, we lifted our t-shirts out from the basin and put them in strong plastic bags.
  • We had to remove the pebbles and elastic bands before putting them in the washing machine at home.
  • The t-shirts came out lovely and we even modelled them on our PE day!!
